16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence
The activities of UN organizations around the world, on the occasion of 16 days of activism against gender-based violence, from November 25 to December 10, take place under the global theme for 2020: Orange the World: Fund, Respond, Prevent, Collect!"
16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence is an annual international campaign that begins on November 25, International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, and runs until December 10, Human Rights Day.
It was initiated by activists of the Institute for Global Leadership of Women back in 1991 and is still used today as a global campaign aimed at eliminating violence against women and girls.
COVID 19 and gender-based violence
The crisis caused by the pandemic was accompanied by a sharp increase in the reporting of cases of gender-based violence. Reports show that there has been an increase in cases of violence as a result of measures introduced to combat the COVID pandemic 19.
All this posed challenges to the rule of law, access to health and social services.
Specialized services run by women's organizations have once again reaffirmed their the key importance in protecting victims.
We invite you to contribute to raising awareness and overall efforts to combat violence against women.
